What is Astrology?
Astrology is the study of the movements and relative positions of celestial objects as a means for divining information about human affairs and terrestrial events. Historically, astrology was considered a scholarly tradition and was common in academic circles, often in close relation with astronomy, alchemy, meteorology, and medicine. Many cultures have attached importance to astronomical events, and some—such as the Hindus, Chinese, and the Maya—developed elaborate systems for predicting terrestrial events from celestial observations. Western astrology, one of the oldest astrological systems still in use, can trace its roots to 19th–17th century BCE Mesopotamia.
The majority of professional astrologers rely on such systems. Astrology has been dated to at least the 2nd millennium BCE, with roots in calendrical systems used to predict seasonal shifts and to interpret celestial cycles as signs of divine communications. A form of astrology was practised in the first dynasty of Mesopotamia (1950–1651 BCE). Chinese astrology was elaborated in the Zhou dynasty (1046–256 BCE). Hellenistic astrology after 332 BCE mixed Babylonian and Egyptian influences, and eventually also Greek tradition. Alexander the Great’s conquest of Asia allowed astrology to spread to Ancient Greece and Rome. In Rome, astrology was associated with’Chaldean wisdom’. After the conquest of Alexandria in the 7th century CE, astrology was taken up by Islamic scholars, and Hellenistic texts were translated into Arabic and Persian.
In the 12th century, Arabic texts were imported to Europe and translated into Latin. Major astronomers including Tycho Brahe, Johannes Kepler and Galileo practised as court astrologers. Astrological references appear in literature in the works of William Shakespeare, Christopher Marlowe and Edmund Spenser. Throughout most of its history, astrology was considered a scholarly tradition and was common in academic circles, often in close relation with astronomy, alchemy, meteorology, and medicine. It was present in political circles, and is mentioned in various works of literature, from Dante Alighieri and Geoffrey Chaucer to William Shakespeare, Lope de Vega, and Calderón de la Barca.
What is Vedic Astrology?
Vedic astrology is the traditional Hindu system of astrology, also known as Jyotisha, which is said to be over 5000 years old. It is based on the Vedas, which are a large body of ancient sacred texts from India. The Vedas are said to be the oldest surviving texts in the world, and they contain a wealth of information on all aspects of human life, including astrology.
Vedic astrology is different from Western astrology in several ways. One of the most significant differences is that it uses the sidereal zodiac, rather than the tropical zodiac used by Western astrology. This means that the Vedic zodiac is aligned with the constellations, rather than with the seasons.
Another difference is that Vedic astrology places more emphasis on the Moon than on the Sun. In Vedic astrology, the Moon is considered to be the planet of the mind, while the Sun is considered to be the planet of the soul. This reflects the Vedic belief that the mind is more changeable than the soul.
Vedic astrology also uses a different system of houses than Western astrology. In Vedic astrology, there are 12 houses, each of which represents a different area of life.
Finally, Vedic astrology uses a different approach to chart interpretation than Western astrology. Vedic astrology interprets a chart from the point of view of the native, rather than from the point of view of the planets and houses. This means that Vedic astrology places more emphasis on the individual than on the universal.
How can Vedic Astrology help me?
Vedic astrology can be used for a variety of purposes, including predicting future events, understanding current problems, and making important decisions.
Future prediction: One of the most popular uses of Vedic astrology is for future prediction. Vedic astrologers use the position of the planets at the time of birth to make predictions about an individual’s future. These predictions can be about any area of life, including marriage, children, career, and health.
Current problems: Vedic astrology can also be used to understand and solve current problems. If you are facing a difficult situation, a Vedic astrologer can help you understand what is causing the problem and how to resolve it.
Important decisions: Vedic astrology can also be used to make important decisions, such as whether to start a new business, get married, or have children. A Vedic astrologer can help you understand the potential consequences of your decision and make sure that you are making the best choice for your future.
Who should consult a Vedic Astrologer?
Anyone can consult a Vedic astrologer, regardless of their background or beliefs. However, it is important to remember that Vedic astrology is not a magical solution to all of life’s problems. It is a tool that can be used to gain insight and understanding, but it is up to the individual to use this information in a positive way.
What will a Vedic Astrology reading entail?
A Vedic astrology reading generally lasts for about an hour. During this time, the astrologer will ask you questions about your life and will use your birth chart to make predictions and give advice.
The birth chart is a map of the sky at the time of your birth. It shows the position of the planets in the zodiac at that time. The astrologer will use your birth chart to identify your strengths and weaknesses, as well as to make predictions about your future.
After the reading, you should have a better understanding of yourself and your future. You may also receive some suggestions on how to improve your life or make important decisions. However, it is important to remember that the information you receive from a Vedic astrology reading is meant to be used as guidance, not as a replacement for your own judgment.
How can I find a Vedic Astrologer?
If you are interested in consulting a Vedic astrologer, there are a few things you can do to find someone who is qualified and experienced.
First, you can ask your friends or family if they know of any good astrologers. If you don’t know anyone who has consulted an astrologer, you can also search online or in your local Yellow Pages.
When searching for an astrologer, it is important to make sure that they are qualified and experienced. You can ask for referrals from friends or family, or you can look for reviews online.
Once you have found an astrologer you feel comfortable with, you can schedule a consultation. During the consultation, the astrologer will ask you questions about your life and will use your birth chart to make predictions and give advice.
A Vedic astrology reading can be a valuable experience that can help you understand yourself and your future. However, it is important to remember that the information you receive from a Vedic astrology reading is meant to be used as guidance, not as a replacement for your own judgment. If you have any concerns about the accuracy of the information you receive, you should consult with another qualified professional, such as a psychologist or counselor.
