Is astrology a true science?

Vedic astrology ia part of vedas or one of the vedangas that is a anga(part) of Vedas which are the earliest sacred texts of Hinduism. The Vedas are a large body of text, consisting of the four main books: the Rigveda, the Yajurveda, the SamaVeda and the AtharvaVeda. There are also many smaller Vedic texts, known as the Upanishads. The Vedas are some of the oldest sacred texts in existence, dating back to around 1500 BCE.

The Rigveda is the oldest of the four Vedas, and is largely concerned with ritual worship and religious sacrifice. The other three Vedas – the Yajurveda, the Samaveda and the Atharvaveda – focus more on practical matters such as magic, medicine and science.

Astrology is mentioned several times in the Rigveda, but it is not clear how seriously it was taken by the ancient Hindus. It was probably seen as more of a tool for understanding the natural world, rather than a science that could be used to make predictions about the future.

The earliest astrological texts, known as the Vedangas, date back to around 600 BCE. These texts were compiled by Indian sages who aim to codify the rules of Vedic astrology. The Vedangas are still used by modern astrologers in India today.

Astrology began to develop into a more scientific pursuit during the Hellenistic period, when it was influenced by Greek astronomy and mathematics. This is when the 12 zodiac signs were first introduced, and when astrology began to be used for making predictions about people’s lives.

During the medieval period, astrology was further developed by Muslim scholars who added their own observations and ideas to the existing body of knowledge. By the time of the Renaissance, astrology was taken seriously by many educated people in Europe as well as in the Arab world.

However, astrology fell out of favour during the Scientific Revolution of the 17th century, when it was increasingly seen as superstitious and unscientific. It has only regained its popularity in recent years, thanks to the resurgence of interest in all things spiritual and metaphysical.

So, is astrology a true science? It depends on how you define science. If you consider scientific to mean anything that is based on observation and experimentation, then astrology certainly qualifies. However, if you define science as something that can be explained by natural laws, then astrology may not be considered a true science. Ultimately, whether or not you believe in astrology is a matter of personal opinion.
