Shobhakritu Nama Samvatsara Ugadi Subhakanshallu,March 22,2023
Ugadi is an important Indian festival celebrated in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra. It marks the beginning of the new year according to the Hindu calendar and falls on 18th April 2023 this year. The term “Ugadi” comes from two Sanskrit words: Yuga- meaning era, and Adi- meaning beginning.
On this day people come together to celebrate new beginnings with a sense of hope and joy for the future. During this festive season, homes are decorated and new clothes are worn as blessings for good health, wealth, luck, and prosperity.
Many traditional activities like playing kollatam , dancing, making pickles and eating special savory dishes such as pachadi (a sour dish made of jaggery, tamarind, and other spices) are also undertaken. People also visit temples to offer prayers in their traditional attire while seeking good fortune by invoking divine grace.
Apart from being a celebration of renewal, Ugadi is also seen as a time for reflection on personal growth – both physically and mentally. The intention here is to usher in positive changes that come with starting anew! Ugadi 2023 thus invites us all to take stock of our lives so far, appreciate our achievements, and use them as stepping stones towards greater success.
So let’s set aside some time when we can really connect with ourselves, and reflect on where we have been so far – both personally and professionally – before setting out towards bigger goals that bring us closer to lasting peace, contentment, love, and joy! Wishing everyone a prosperous Ugadi 2023 filled with an abundance of positivity!
Ugadi Pachadi:
Shad ruchillu or six tastes. The six tastes of the Ugadi Pachhadi are a symbolic reminder of life and its various emotions. They include
neem (sweet and bitter), jaggery (sweet), tamarind (sour), salt(salty), raw mango (astringent) , and chili powder (hot).
The combination of these six tastes represents the ups and downs of life, reminding us to accept all emotions – good or bad – as part of our journey.
With this symbolic representation of the various kinds of flavors that life can offer, Ugadi Pachhadi highlights the importance of embracing each emotion with an open mind. For a harmonious experience, it is essential to accept the bitter with the sweet, and to make peace with life’s uncertainties.
So let us take a moment to savor each flavor of Ugadi Pachhadi as a reminder to appreciate life in its entirety – the highs and lows, joys and sorrows, successes and failures – all united by one common factor: hope for a better tomorrow. Wishing you all a joyful Ugadi 2023!
